Aiming at global standardization
Sanoh Industrial （Dongguan）Co., Ltd. Sanoh Industrial(Dongguan)
I decided to change my job because the working environment of my previous company drastically changed and I thought I wouldn’t be able to pursue my vision anymore. I came to know about Sanoh when I was looking for a company that had a development division in which I could make good use of my expertise of plating. However, the reality was that I had a feeling of ‘I have to do whatever I can do, not sticking to my expertise’ while looking for a job.
After joining Sanoh, I was assigned to the surface treatment group where I gained experience in painting and plastic coating as well as development of plating technology for the chassis tubular products.
As a group leader, I’m now working on documentation of Sanoh’s surface treatment technologies to make its intellectual property tangible. In addition, we are creating the manual for globally deploying the plating technologies. I have experience in supporting the start-up of plating lines at the overseas subsidiaries in China, India and Thai. I have been abroad about 2 years in total, including 2-day business trip as the shortest one and 3 months as the longest.
I felt a language and cultural barrier was a great obstacle when I was abroad. For instance, English is the second official language in India, but only a few people with education can actually speak English. The staff members in the production site only spoke Hindi, the official language of the district to which I made a business trip. I tried hard to have communication with the people in production with a book about Hindi in my hand. I could learn Hindi in doing so. Once I learned the language, I became able to understand Indian culture and way of thinking. This is how I tried to have communication with local staff to share the way to approach a project.
‘Hand-making’ and ‘Challenge’ are the keywords stated in the corporate philosophy of Sanoh. I think you should challenge yourself to fit in well with a local workplace in order to achieve results during your overseas business trip. Also, lots of things you have never experienced sometimes happen while working at an overseas subsidiary. In such a case, you often have to cope with the situation by ‘Hand-making’. Sanoh’s corporate philosophy includes several keywords to overcome a difficult situation. If you are interested in Sanoh, you should carefully read them and ask yourself whether any of them are in line with your dream or vision so that you can share the values with Sanoh and grow together.
I’m going to achieve the global standardization for Sanoh’s surface treatment technologies so that we will be able to supply the same quality products to our customers regardless of production sites. I think it is hard to standardize technical matters, such as manufacturing technologies, knowledge level, ways of control and working methods, but the hardest thing is the standardization of the matters concerning sensitivity and working custom. I’m grappling with creation of a clean surface treatment line as my first rung on the ladder of global standardization.
